It was May of 1982. Rec Hall, in University Park, Pennsylvania. That’s when the UCLA Bruins men’s volleyball team, led by coach Al Scates, capped off an incredible undefeated season by topping Penn State on its own turf. The record – a perfect 29-0. It was the ninth national title for UCLA’s volleyball program, making it the gold standard in the sport.
