UCLA - Jackie Robinson Bruins Baseball Blue Triblend Tee

“I never cared about acceptance as much as I cared about respect.”

He lettered in four sports while attending UCLA from 1939-1941. He broke baseball’s color barrier in 1947, becoming the first Black athlete in the Major Leagues. And Jackie Robinson withstood the prejudices of his day with courage and undying dignity, actions that strengthened the voices of millions.

It wasn’t the Hall of Fame career that merely defined Jackie, but the fact that he lifted up so many to be there with him. It was him co-founding the Freedom National Bank in Harlem. It was him starting the Jackie Robinson Construction Company to build low-income housing. It was his Civil Rights work, his work with youths, his community efforts. It was that he passed greatness down, to those of his own day right down to our own.
